YANMAR expands presence in Scandinavia with new service agent

One of the world’s leading manufacturers of diesel engines to the marine industry, YANMAR Europe BV, has signed an agreement with the Danish independent service provider VMS Group A/S as a new service agent for commercial marine engines and spare parts.

As of today, VMS Group is a registered agent to service YANMAR medium and high commercial marine engines.

Kim Rasmussen, CCO of VMS Group, sees great opportunities and good potential in the wide range of marine engines that YANMAR offers.

“Due to our many years of experience in the marine business we know YANMAR as a manufacturer of efficient, strong and reliable engines. This is also what ship owners tell us as feedback on YANMAR engines. Furthermore, we find that the innovative technology behind the YANMAR engines plays an important role in the future, where the demands for efficiency and environmental considerations are only becoming more crucial”, says Kim Rasmussen.

Eric Tigelaar, Manager Marine Department at YANMAR Europe BV, adds: “We are very happy to have VMS Group on board in our dealer network as an efficient and reliable sales and service partner in Denmark for total marine solutions to customers in all branches of the marine industry, from fishing vessels to the merchant navy, tankers and container ships. Their 20 years of experience and reputation in the market fit perfectly well with the reliability and quality message YANMAR wants to convey. We look forward to a long-lasting and fruitful relationship.”

Fulco Sangers, Manager After Sales of YANMAR Europe BV is pleased to have another strong service partner in Denmark. “With an increasing foothold in the maritime industry in Northern Europe, we are pleased to have been able to expand our service and parts network with the expertise, knowledge and customer focus of VMS Group in Denmark. We are convinced that their dedication will help to further strengthen YANMAR’s reputation in the market.”

Worldwide service
As an independent service provider for nearly two decades, VMS Group covers all aspects of marine service such as repair and maintenance of diesel engines, turbochargers, gear and propellers to the maritime industry, the offshore industry, power plants and wind industry as well as sales of engines, spare parts and complete propulsion systems and finally design, engineering and project management.

The company is based in the port of Frederikshavn, Denmark, and in addition to VMS Group A/S, the company consists of VMS do Brasil in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and VMS Group Namibia in Walvis Bay, Namibia. VMS Group and affiliated companies employ approx. 200 employees, including 100 highly skilled industrial technicians, service engineers and supervisors traveling worldwide.

– Especially regarding the wide range of purposes, we see the agreement with Yanmar as a strengthening of our service center in Namport, Namibia, says Kim Rasmussen.

Being the only port with service facilities between Cape Town, South Africa, and the Canary Islands, Walvis Bay in Namibia is key area for marine traffic in Eastern Atlantic. Namport is facing a planned extension which among other things includes a new container terminal. Furthermore, Walvis Bay is home to 12 fish factories and a local fishing fleet of more than 130 vessels.

– But also in Norway, where the focus is on sustainability from both governmental authorities as well as our customers, we have a strong position in the market. Therefore, we were happy to realize that the world’s first hybrid-power wellboat, Ro Vision, which was appointed Norway’s Ship of the Year 2020, is powered by Yanmar with a set of three 6EY22ALW auxiliary medium speed engines, says Kim Rasmussen.
