Danish companies hold the key to reducing CO2 emissions in shipping

Two independent Danish service supplier and consultancy companies within the maritime industry, VMS Group A/S and EMENERGI, enter strategic partnership to promote sustainability in international shipping

VMS Group A/S, an international supplier of engine and energy technology solutions, and EMENERGI, a leading consultant with 20 years of experience in energy optimization and sustainable transition, are now bringing the green future of shipping to the forefront.

The two Danish companies are entering a strategic partnership to promote sustainability and energy efficiency in the maritime industry worldwide.

In recent years, there has been a significant focus in the shipping industry on reducing emissions, particularly nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulfur oxides (SOx), from exhaust gases. This decision was negotiated back in 2008 by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Since then, the requirements for ship emissions have been continuously tightened, now with an increasing focus on decarbonization, i.e., the reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

Various technologies and alternative fuel options can be taken into consideration, making it a daunting task for individual shipowners to choose the best solutions, whether it’s a new build project or a retrofit of an older vessel.

Expertise and Experience

The partnership between EMENERGI and VMS Group combines EMENERGI’s expertise in energy optimization with VMS’s extensive experience in engine technology and integrated energy solutions. The collaboration aims to provide tailor-made and effective solutions for ship owners who need to meet CO2 emission reduction requirements and improve their sustainability profiles.

“Our combined expertise will help our customers navigate the increasingly stringent and complex requirements for energy efficiency and sustainability in the maritime industry,” says Erik Mortensen from EMENERGI.

“The partnership with EMENERGI is an important step in our strategy to expand VMS Group’s portfolio and strengthen our position in the global market. Together, we can deliver integrated and innovative solutions that help our customers achieve their sustainability goals and improve their competitiveness,” says Kim Rasmussen from VMS Group.

Advanced Solutions

The collaboration between the two Danish companies will focus on developing and implementing advanced energy solutions, including energy screening, energy audits, hybrid and electric propulsion technologies and alternative fuel solutions.

All of which is based on individual, concrete assessments that can help each ship owner carry out the necessary upgrades to meet the latest requirements and standards from both IMO and national legislation.

As independent service providers, EMENERGI and VMS Group will also be able to offer competent assistance to ship owners in applying for various types of support schemes, nationally as well as internationally.
